Wireless Broadband Networks in Emerging Markets
Focusing on emerging markets in the Middle East, Latin America and Africa, MetroLink provides customers access to media-rich wireless networks, content, applications and services.
Rapid Growth Potential
The company has completed, or is in negotiations with potential in-country partners, to jointly develop nationwide wireless broadband infrastructure in countries in the Middle East, Africa and Latin America. Many factors go into choosing a candidate country including the following criteria:
- Ascertaining the need to provide wireless broadband telecom solutions in underserved environments, where existing infrastructure may be virtually nonexistent, or limited to major metropolitan areas.
- The ability to align with strong local strategic partner, who can provide the necessary resources in securing spectrum, interfacing with government and regulatory authorities, and is capable of providing “on-site” staffing and support.
- Meeting the business, regulatory, technical and market qualifications for development as set forth in the MetroLink Project Planning Guide.
- Determining that a significant number of multinational companies, government, military agencies, SMEs and NGOs are in the market, and are capable of supporting a commercial enterprise.
- Identifying and qualifying the potential for adequate future growth throughout the region. (Strong growth potential may be due to an abundance of oil or other energy reserves and/or valuable mineral and agricultural resources.)

Multi-tier Wireless
By employing a unique wireless broadband “multi-tier” design, MetroLink Solutions has developed a comprehensive program to bring high-speed wireless broadband to cities, towns and villages worldwide. The network architecture integrates a number of wireless broadband equipment and support systems into a ‘seamless’ network that is deployed, following a cost-effective migration strategy. When the multi-tier wireless concept is coupled with innovative and highly desirable content-based services, MetroLink is able to provide telecommunications services on a scale never before available in secondary, tertiary market and rural communities of developing countries.
Markets
Globally, 2.1 billion wireless broadband customers will generate US$784 billion in service revenue by 2015. This revenue increase of about 2400% will be underpinned by continued developments in wireless technologies, improvements in devices and more flexible pricing options. While developing regions will account for only 17% of wireless broadband customers at the end of 2008, the lack of fixed-line infrastructure in these regions will bolster the growth of wireless broadband services, and developing regions will account for 57% of wireless broadband customers worldwide by the end of 2015.
MetroLink is on the leading edge of this trend. With strategic assistance from some of the broadband industry’s leading providers of products, applications and services, MetroLink intends to actively engage in designing, building and operating networks in the cities and towns of developing countries in Africa and the Middle East.
MetroLink has distinguished itself from other companies by utilizing its comprehensive program to bring high-speed wireless broadband to selected communities on two fronts:
- Metropolitan Commercial Deployment: utilizing a unique combination of “multi-tier” wireless technologies, including WiMAX, Mesh, Wi-Fi and satellite, to provide seamless integration of commercial applications and services over a wide area.
- Secondary, Remote and Rural Market Development: employing the unique MetroLink (Educational Telecommunications Services) initiative based on providing low-cost Internet-delivered wireless broadband services to schools, medical clinics and residents in remote and rural areas.
